2.1 Admission to Co-op and Internship Programs


Students apply for Co‐operative education/Internship programs through their faculty. Information on admission to each co‐op and internship program is available through the faculty office, see 4. Faculty Contact Information for Undergraduate Co-operative Education/Internship. The University reserves the right to refuse admission to a Co‐operative Education/Internship program on academic or other grounds.

General Admission Requirements

Students must:

  • Be legally permitted to work in Canada. International students must obtain a Co‐operative Work Permit to be eligible for work placements that are required to complete their program.

  • Where applicable, obtain the required permits if they choose to pursue a placement in a country other than Canada.

  • Meet faculty/program GPA and course entrance requirements.

  • Complete the Career Development Workshop or equivalent Faculty‐specific preparatory session(s).

  • Meet other admissibility criteria as required by their faculty (i.e., personal interview).


undergraduate students

Must be admitted to a degree program offering a Co‐operative Education or Internship program.

Must be registered as a full‐time student.

Transfer students may be considered but should refer to their faculty section for details. Transfer

students must complete one academic term at the University of Calgary prior to starting a work term.

Applications for co‐op/internship program admission are reviewed by the faculty and must be received

by the applicable deadline. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

graduate students

Must indicate intention to apply for a formalized internship program at the time of application to their

primary program in accordance with program application deadlines.

Admission Appeals

Admission decisions may not be appealed.
